A site specific a little too close for comfort?

So, I'm all about breaking the boundaries of the proscenium arch, performers interacting with the audience and pushing comfort levels. But, performing in your bathroom?

Dark Horse/Black Forest, by Yanira Castro + Company is a piece that comes straight to your home bathroom upon request. Performed previously in Romania, this piece is a work in progress that is scheduled for release in the United States in 2009.

don't think it's too close for comfort at all. the beauty of site specific pieces is it that they allow the audience to fully experience a performance. plus, such a production proves peter brook's empty space theory.

What is "Dancing A La Mode" about?

“Dancing A La Mode” provides critiques and analysis of dance performances viewed on television, online and on stage. It is a place where dance performers and supporters can examine dance considered “in fashion.”

With the increased visibility of dance online and on television, through programs such as “So You Think You Can Dance,” the average American is more likely to observe and form opinions about this art, which used to be considered the performance art that was least appreciated. This increased visibility leads people of all ages to not only watch performances, but participate in dance classes. For example, with the success of the ABC show “Dancing With The Stars,” which pairs celebrities and professional ballroom dancers in a competition, ballroom classes attendance across the country has increased.

As Americans participate and begin to admire this art, they need an outlet to share opinions, explore other’s views and learn about dance, from an individual who has studied the art. “Dancing A La Mode” fits that need by analyzing highly visible dance performances, while introducing audiences to alternative choreographers and styles of dance. By allowing viewers the opportunity to explore less visible styles, there is a hope that American spectators will develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of all styles of dance.
